Safety Focus of the Week: Rebar Caps
Protective caps are required by OSHA to protect workers from impalement from a fall onto a vertical rebar:
1926.701 (b) Reinforcing steel. All protruding reinforcing steel, onto and into which employees could fall, shall be guarded to eliminate the hazard of impalement.
Caps are also required for any horizontally protruding rebar or other sharp objects that can harm us if we walk or trip into the bar. This hazard is especially a concern for rebar at face level.
