Since our inception in 1965, ECI has worked on a variety of projects. In more recent years, environmental projects have been an increasing part of our work.

ECI has a full-time safety director and eight of our employees have the 40-hour Hazardous Materials Incident Response Operations Training (29 CFR 1910.120). One of our principals is a registered professional engineer in five states specializing in geotechnical engineering with experience in environmental engineering. ECI considers worker safety a priority on all projects.

Our construction experience on environmental projects includes:

  • Excavation for underground utilities in sites contaminated with petroleum, chlorinated solvents, and other hazardous materials.
  • Entry into and monitoring of confined spaces
  • Construction of clay and synthetic liners and caps
  • Construction of containment dikes for fuel tank facilities and electrical transformers
  • Management and stockpiling of contaminated soil
  • Groundwater treatment pumping facilities
  • Vapor extraction (from soil) facilities

ECI recently purchased a VecLoader Hepa Vac II for vacuuming contaminated soil. This equipment is particularly useful for excavation inside of buildings where there is a concern for exposing the occupants to vapors or dust containing heavy metals. Once the soil enters the intake, the soil is isolated from human contact until it is discharged into containers outside of the building. Air-born particles that may contain heavy metals or other contaminates are trapped by the hepa filter. Carbon filters are used if volatile organic compounds are expected.
