Safety Focus of the Week: More on Heat Illnesses
This week we’ve experienced the hottest weather of the year with temperatures in the 90s and high humidity. During these conditions, we must be mindful of the potential for heat illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
As with most of the hazards on our jobsites, the first step is to identify the risks and then plan to mitigate the risks during our morning tailboard. When it comes to extreme heat, our plan should include the following:
- Plan to pace our physical activities accordingly
- Plan and take regular hydration breaks
- Watch your coworkers for signs of heat injuries
- Work under shaded conditions when possible
