Safety Focus of the Week: Protection from Electrical Hazards (revisited)
Electrocution is one of the OSHA Construction Focus Four, and for good reason. Not only is electrocution one of the leading causes of workplace fatalities, its also one of the the most common hazards on a construction work site. Nearly every day we are using power tools with house power or portable generators.
This week we are focusing on these hazards and making certain that we are adequately protected from injury when using extension chords with power tools:
- Verify that our extension chords are in good condition with a GFCI.
- Test the GFCI regularly.
- Only one extension chord should be used – don’t extend with another cord.
- Use only rated power chords for the amperage of the tool.
- Check the extension chords and power chords on our power tools for damage prior to use
Can you name the other focus four?
