Benjamin D. Heath, P.E. joined Engineers Construction, Inc. (ECI) in 2021 and currently serves as the Civil Market Manager, which is the largest market group of the company. Ben also serves as the Assistant Secretary for the Corporation, Chair of the ECI Safety Committee, and is a member of the ECI Senior Leadership Executive Group.
Ben graduated in 2010 from the University of Vermont with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a minor in Mathematics, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies with a minor in Forestry.
Ben began his career in 2007 as an intern for Hamlin Consulting Engineers, Inc., a private civil engineering consulting firm. Between 2007-2017 Ben was promoted from Intern to Project Engineer to Vice President. Ben served as Vice President of the firm from 2017 through 2021. At the firm, Ben provided complete design engineering, land surveying, environmental resource investigations, permitting, construction administration, client representation at Local development review board hearings, plan review for municipalities, and resident engineering services. Ben provided consulting services in support of infrastructure improvements in the municipal, institutional, residential, commercial, industrial, recreational, State DOT, and agricultural sectors for projects ranging from $100K to $100M in total project costs.
Ben is a licensed Professional Engineer in the States of Vermont, New York, and New Hampshire. He is also a licensed Class B Wastewater Designer, State of Vermont Water Supply Designer, State of Vermont Grade 1 Domestic Wastewater Operator, Certified Stormwater Inspector-National Stormwater Center, Technical Service Provider-United States Department of Agriculture, and State of Vermont Class 1A Public Water System Operator.
Ben’s role as Civil Market Manager at ECI includes providing complete oversight to the Market Group. Responsibilities include setting expectations for Project Managers, Project Engineers, and Foreman, review and execution of awarded contracts, assigning project management, engineering, and supervisory teams on all new projects, coordinate with General Superintendents, Foreman, labor, and equipment dispatchers on general global needs for projects, establish and implement project management standards with respect to project administration, field coordination, cost management, client coordination, document/data management, preconstruction administration, review/approval of subcontractor agreements, monitoring metrics on all active projects, recruiting new staff, and conducting employee performance reviews.
Ben champions a strategic initiative which includes conducting annual presentations and recruitment efforts at several High School Technical programs across the State of Vermont. This effort has resulted in the development of relationships with the school representatives and a critical shift in the company demographics. The company has seen a large influx of young construction workers joining the ECI team due to these efforts. Although Ben is an Engineer by trade, his real passion lies in the development and maintenance of company culture, structure, and leadership. He works daily with Ben Dow developing strategies to help employees, improve accountability, build individual and group leadership, improve communication, building empowerment, limiting drama, limiting emotional expensiveness, and using reality-based leadership techniques to grow and maintain the ECI culture.
Ben serves on the Board of Directors for the Chittenden Country Fish and Game Club and is a member of the Essex Technical Center Advisory Board.
