- Potential for accelerated schedule
- Reduces the bid document process
- Once a D-B project starts, it allows for early ordering of long-lead procurement items
- Work can start earlier when preliminary work can occur prior to a final design
- Savings to the Owner due to:
- Reduced engineering effort to prepare final design bid documents
- Less risk of costly budget overruns due to incomplete or conflicting bid documents
- Allows the contractor to select building systems that best optimize its capabilities
- Reduced Liability:
- Design and construction is with one entity which reduces the potential for conflict involving the Owner
- Improved Efficiency on Complex Projects:
- Contractor with experience on complex projects is integrated into the design team for a better design which incorporates constructability advantages.
- Potential for accelerated schedule
ECI is uniquely qualified and experienced as a D-B contractor in railroad construction, industrial buildings, waterfront and marine structures, fiber optic conduit systems, excavation support systems, and foundation repairs. Our staff includes 7 licensed professional engineers. We also work with several specialty consultants practicing in civil, geotechnical, and structural engineering to supplement our capabilities.
Ryegate Culvert
Our most notable design-build project was the Ryegate Culvert, a $15.3M culvert replacement under US Route 5 and the Washington County Railroad in East Ryegate, Vermont. The VTrans project performed under the FHWA design-build format involved a 2-segment alignment for a 32-ft-span “culvert” to convey the waters of the Manchester Brook to the Connecticut River in East Ryegate, VT. Construction involved excavations of up to 70 feet deep through the Washington County Railroad (WACR) and US Route 5 highway embankments with temporary pre-engineered bridges to maintain traffic on these important transportation arteries.
