Deep Foundations
Deep foundations are drilled or driven foundation elements that achieve their capacity from more competent soil or rock below the traditional frost-depth elevation used for a typical shallow foundation. Deep foundations are used for compression or tension and sometimes are designed to achieve both force directions. Tension foundations are commonly called ground anchors which often are designed without any significant structural compression capacity.
Driven Piles
ECI has a Demag D16-34 open-ended diesel hammer for driving both steel H-Piles and Pipe Piles.
Drilled Hollow Bar Micro-Piles
Drilled Hollow Bar Micro-Piles are typically installed with one of our TEI drills which are set up with a top-hole drifter hammer. ECI has two excavator attachment TEI drills, one for a 23 mT excavator and a smaller drill attachment for a 7.5 mT excavator. We also have a smaller “man portable” TEI drill that runs off a remote hydraulic powerpack for limited access projects such as basements and restricted space work conditions.
Drilled Shafts
ECI installs drilled shafts up to about 20 feet deep and 5 feet diameter in soil conditions. Most of our drilled shafts are constructed for traffic signal mast poles which are subjected to very high torsion and overturning forces. These drilled shafts are also suitable for a variety of other structures such as large sign foundations and tall light poles.
Sheet Piling and Soldier Piles
ECI installs sheet piling and soldier piles (typically steel H-Piles) for temporary excavation support systems and permanent bulkhead walls. These piles are typically installed with one of our vibratory hammers. We have also installed a fiberglass sheetpile bulkhead wall on Lake Champlain.
Helical Foundations
ECI is a licensed dealer and installer for Ideal Foundation Systems (http://www.idealfoundationsystems.com). The Ideal product line includes a variety of sizes and structural capacities for helical piers and anchors.
In addition to pile installation and load testing, ECI has complete excavation, backfill, concrete construction, and sitework capabilities to complement the pile foundation.
