Dugway Brook Route 30 Emergency Culvert Replacement

In June of 2022 ECI was subcontracted by Friend Commercial Contracting from Malone, NY to perform the trenchless portion of the emergency culvert replacement of the 84” culvert that channels Dugway Brook under Route 30 near Duane, NY.

After a routine NYDOT inspection the culvert was red-flagged and a more thorough investigation revealed severe deterioration of the 210 foot steel culvert. ECI installed a fiberglass/mortar 84” pipe approximately 15-20 feet per day. The two biggest complications ECI faced were the 30 foot steeply sloped embankment from the highway, which made getting equipment down to the work site difficult, and the soil conditions which almost caused an embankment to collapse and required additional bracing. Thankfully our team had a good geotechnical baseline report which helped them address potential issues before they became actual problems. By December 5th, almost exactly one month after ECI mobilized to the site, the new pipe was in place and ECI’s work was completed.
