FEATURED PROJECTS
Route 2 Richmond Bridge - 2025
ECI was contracted by VTrans to replace and then remove Bridge 29 which carries Route 2 across I-89 just south of Richmond Village. The goal of this project was to replace the existing 1964 8-span bridge with a new 2-span off-alignment bridge. This was a 3-year project that started in May of 2023 and was completed in September of 2025.
Franklin County State Airport Expansion – 2024
ECI was hired to expand the Franklin County State Airport. The project included lengthening the runway 1,000’, building a new 35’ x 2,000’ taxiway along the runway extension and widening the existing taxiway by 15’. The purpose of this project was to upgrade the runway to accommodate larger aircraft and bring it up to current federal regulations.
NECR Bridge 35.01 Replacement in Royalton, VT - 2024
ECI contracted with VTrans to replace NECR Bridge 35.01 over Route 14 in Royalton, VT. The existing 26’ clear span bridge was only 12’ 1” above the roadway. Because of the size the bridge choked traffic down to a single lane with no signals and a blind approach from each direction. Due to its low height, the bridge was a high strike-risk, was hit multiple times while ECI was on site, and in the past had been hit hard enough to mangle the outside beams and knock the tracks off alignment. The new bridge is a 125’ steel girder bridge with an improved vertical clearance of 14’ 6” and allowed for Route 14 to be realigned and widened to 30’ from shoulder to shoulder with clear visibility.
Ryegate Culvert Design-Build Replacement Project - 2015
ECI is the Design-Build contractor to the Vermont Agency of Transportation for this $15.248M culvert replacement project. The undersized and failing existing culverts conveyed the waters of the Manchester Brook (a tributary to the Connecticut River) below the US Route 5 and Washington County Railroad embankments. This particularly challenging project involved replacing the culverts with a new 32-ft clear span opening below the 70-ft-tall railroad embankment and 60-ft-tall highway embankment.

Crescent Connector
In 2023 ECI was contracted by the City of Essex Junction to complete Crescent Connector Phase Two Construction. This project consisted of constructing a new roadway connecting Park Street (Vermont Route 2A) to Maple Street (Vermont 117), a full-depth reconstruction of Railroad Street, installation of two new traffic signals at Park Street and Maple Street, new concrete sidewalks, street lighting improvements, water system expansion, and stormwater conveyance and treatment systems. Construction of the project was further complicated by the presence of Urban Background Soils, Development Soils, and Non-hazardous waste soils.
Pittsford Rail Bridge Rehab & Strengthening - 2017
The bridge which is owned by the State of Vermont was constructed in 1900 and consists of a truss and a girder span with stone abutments and middle pier. The substructures had been repaired several times previously and the center pier had continued to tilt up to and during construction. The tilting and settlement of the pier and abutment had required previous shimming of the bridge, the bridge deck, and the track approaches. This older bridge also needed strengthening to meet the heavier class of modern rail cars

CCTA Downtown Transit Center
ECI is the site and concrete contractor for the new Downtown Transit Center for the Chittenden County Transportation Authority (CCTA) in Burlington, Vermont. The project involves reconstruction of the entire Saint Paul Street from Cherry to Pearl Street with a new building in the center of the street with a canopy extending north towards Pearl Street.
VELCO & GMP Lime Kiln Substations - 2010
The project was part of the Gorge Area Reinforcement (GAR) which will increase the power reliability to northern Chittenden County. Power reliability is essential to economic vitality of the region. ECI was the civil contractor for these two substations which included extensive earthwork and rock excavation, a pair of large retaining walls, over 250 individual foundations, miles of conduit and copper grounding.
Renewable Energy Project – Rock of Ages 100kW Wind Turbine
ECI was the general contractor on this 100 kW Northern Power Systems turbine installed at the summit of Millstone Hill in Graniteville, Vermont. The project is the showcase turbine for Northern Power Systems of Barre, Vermont, the manufacturer of the turbine.
North Hero-Grand Isle Draw Bridge Emergency Superstructure Repairs - 2008
ECI was selected as the contractor for this emergency repair on the 1950’s North Hero – Grand Isle Draw Bridge. The structure consists of a double leaf bascule girder draw bridge with a total draw span of 130 feet. The floor beams, diaphragms, and metal decking were all in poor condition that required an emergency repair. Traffic had been diverted to a temporary Mabey bridge over the bascule span to take load off the bridge.
Pinkham Notch Conduit System - 2008
ECI designed and constructed this 10-mile-long run of underground conduit through Pinkham Notch, NH. The Notch is a popular tourist destination in the heart of the White Mountain National Forest at the base of Mt. Washington. It is considered the most sacred roadway in New Hampshire.
Burlington Tunnel Emergency Repairs - 2008
ECI was engaged by the NECR to perform emergency stabilization of the Burlington Tunnel (located under North Avenue in Burlington, VT). A sudden loss of structural integrity of the tunnel floor caused significant ground movements and longitudinal cracking at the spring-line of the 150-year-old brick lined tunnel. The railroad immediately stabilized the tunnel by flooding the unstable areas concrete. ECI was called in to design/build a permanent repair.
VTrans Intelligent Information System (ITS)
This project consisted of a communications line upgrade to allow for relocation of some of the state’s computer network system that was vulnerable to flooding conditions along the Winooski River in Montpelier, Vermont. The project was highly visible on the main through street of Vermont’s capital city.
