Pinkham Notch Conduit System - 2008
ECI’s Client: FairPoint Communications
Completion Date: Fall 2008
Subcontractors: No Construction Subcontractors; Completely Self-Performed
Consultants: Permitting and Surveying
ECI designed and constructed this 10-mile-long run of underground conduit through Pinkham Notch, NH. The Notch is a popular tourist destination in the heart of the White Mountain National Forest at the base of Mt. Washington. It is considered the most sacred roadway in New Hampshire.
FairPoint required this connection to complete a critical ring for its communications backbone. ECI was selected because of our similar design/build experience in the nearby Kinsman Notch in 2002.
ECI’s scope of work included the following:
Survey/Engineering/Permitting
Sediment Control and Erosion Prevention
Directional Drilling for Stream and Road Crossings
Bridge Attachment Installation
Underground Conduit and Handhold Construction
Traffic Control/Site Restoration/Etc.
ECI returned to Pinkham in June 2013 to install a fiber optic cable for a NH telecommunications company. The fiber was installed with our Condux Fiber Blowing Machine which pushes the cable with a tractor system and a stream of high-velocity air flowing through the conduit that suspends the cable and helps to push it along.
