Gentes Road Bridge Rehabilitation

The bridge was constructed circa 1910 to separate the roadway from the crossing with the Central Vermont Railroad.  The superstructure was replaced with concrete beams in 1991.  However, the original concrete abutment, backwall, and wingwalls were in need of rehabilitation.   ECI was contracted with the Town of Essex Junction to reface the abutments and wingwalls, and replace the backwalls.  The project also included a new asphalt pavement deck and waterproofing membrane.

ECI scaled the deteriorated faces of abutments and  wingwalls with an excavator-mounted grinder.  Nearly 1,000 stainless steel dowels were used to connect the old structures with the new 8-inch-thick concrete face.
